Activity description

Enjoy a 4x4 excursion led by expert local guides through the public areas of the Guarrizas River Valley and its surroundings, with the goal of observing the Iberian lynx.

During the tour, your guide will explain the characteristics of their habitat, as well as aspects of their biology and behavior, and you will follow specific routes and wait at common observation sites.

You'll also be able to learn about some of the conservation efforts that have been carried out in the area to recover populations of this endangered species.

The activity takes place in the Despeñaperros Natural Park, in the nearby Guarrizas River Valley, in the province of Jaén. The itinerary and waiting areas will depend on the latest sightings and other species you wish to observe during the day.

In 2010, Grazalema and Granadilla, two female Iberian lynxes born in captivity at the "La Olivilla" Breeding Center, were the first specimens released in the Guarrizas River Valley.

Although Grazalema and Granadilla are no longer with us, they contributed to leaving an important legacy that allows us to count on a population of almost 200 Iberian lynxes in this area today.

During the tour, it is also possible to observe a multitude of bird species, mainly, and also reptiles or amphibians depending on the time of year.

In addition, we will try to show you tracks, footprints, or areas we have previously located that indicate the presence of the Iberian lynx.

Let your guide recommend you; the experience and information you gain about sightings each day will make your visit much more successful.
